General Internal Medicine Welcomes New APCs and Fellows

University of  Utah Division of General Internal Medicine welcomes new team members: Kaleigh Bazany and Jacob Hendricks are our new APC hires, and Erin Checketts and Abigail Barrus are our new fellows.

Kaleigh Bazany, PA-C

Kaleigh Bazany grew up in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and earned her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After graduation, she moved to Chicago, where she worked as an EMT and urgent care technician before attending PA school at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She went on to complete a hospital medicine fellowship in Muskegon, Michigan. During PA school, she met her husband, and the two eventually moved to Utah for the access to the mountains and endless outdoor activities. Outside of work, she enjoys skiing, mountain biking, hiking, reading, and painting.

Jacob Hendricks, PA-C

Jacob Hendricks grew up in Bakersfield, California and moved to Draper, Utah as a teen. He graduated from the University of Utah with a BSN in psychology and from the University of Saint Joseph with a masters of PA-C. He has been working in urgent care and family practice since graduating from PA school. Jake enjoys spending  time with his wife and children. Most of his time is spent navigating the joys and challenges of parenthood but, when he can, eh enjoys listening to music and playing sports, usually pickleball or basketball. He loves Utah's vast opportunity for outdoor recreation. Jake is a regular attendee of group fitness classes and loves the camaraderie of group fitness and wellness.

Abigail Barrus, NP Fellow

Abigail Barrus grew up in Riverton, Utah, before becoming an RN in 2019 and working in BMT at LDS Hospital for the past 6 years. She graduated with her DNP in Adult/Gerontology Acute Care from the University of Utah in 2025. When she's not working, she loves anything outdoors and/or active, trying new foods/activities, and playing her violin.

Erin Checketts, NP Fellow

Erin grew up in Salt Lake County and has always been drawn to health and science. She studied Public Health at Brigham Young University and Nursing at BYU-Idaho, then went on to spend almost ten  years working as an ICU nurse in Southern California and Washington. Along the way, she's taken on leadership roles with the American Association of Critical Care Nurses in both California and Utah. In 2025, Erin completed her DNP as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Washington State University. She's now continuing her training to earn an acute care-adult gerontology certificate at the University of Utah, where she's grateful to be part of the Internal Medicine team as a Fellow. When she's not working, Erin loves traveling abroad and staying active through cycling, weightlifting, and running.
