Mission
The University of Utah (UU) DOIM has established the Health Research and Evaluation for Communities Section in the Division of Epidemiology and DOIM-wide Workgroup. The mission of these two complementary entities is to advance the science and practice for health, wellbeing, and access to high-quality health care, public health, and social services in Utah, the Intermountain West, and nation for all persons regardless of sociodemographic, health, or economic backgrounds.
With these advancements, UU Health will stand as an example of high-quality care that systems, payors, and policymakers can look to for evidence in their efforts to improve service delivery locally, regionally, and nationally.

Leading
Facilitating
Promoting
Leading research, evaluation, and quality improvement will involve Section and Workgroup leaders and members developing investigator-initiated projects and centers targeted for submission to federal, state, and private funding sources. These projects will seek to develop a greater knowledge base as well as advance strategies that will improve health care, public health, and social services for all persons.
Facilitating research, evaluation, and quality improvement will involve Workgroup and Section leaders establishing supportive environments within DOIM and Epidemiology that will enable faculty, trainees, and staff to interact, collaborate, and co-create cross-cutting/interdisciplinary research focusing on communitities.
Promoting research, evaluation, and quality improvement will involve leveraging resources from the Section and Workgroup to (1) share the vision of faculty, trainees, and staff and (2) link knowledge/innovations generated to community, business, and governmental partners/stakeholders. These efforts are strategically intended to create a mutually beneficial community and dialogue between partners/stakeholders and UU/UU Health.
