Faculty Expectations

Getting Started

After your start date, you will need to complete Bridge LMS training modules, an Employee Intellectual Property Assignment Agreement for Benefit Eligible Employees, and a Confidentiality and Information Security Agreement for Health Academics. You will be able to set up your direct deposit and W4 in the Payroll, Taxes, and Salary section in Campus Information Services. You will also pick up your UCard badge which will serve as your key to access campus buildings. You will also be able to update your University CV which will feed information about you onto the website and will make your CV accessible to University administrators. The New Faculty Guide to IT Resources will provide you with more information about the digital resources that you will be utilizing and how to access them.

Faculty Areas of Contribution

There are 4 main areas where faculty contribute: Clinical Practice Advancement, Education/Mentorship, Investigation, and Administration. These contributions will be important for faculty to illustrate being prepared for promotion review when the time comes.

All clinicians must have a Utah Medical Physician & Surgeon License, a Utah Controlled Substance License, and a Utah DEA License before their start date. If you do not already have these, please follow the steps below:

Before you apply for a Utah Medical Physician & Surgeon License with a Utah Controlled Substance License, you must complete 3 items:

After receiving your Utah Medical License with Utah Control Substance License, register for an individual DEA License or transfer a DEA license to the State of Utah. Your division can provide you with more information about the certifying official, business contact information, and the options and limitations of a fee-exempt license.  

Education/Mentorship

There are many opportunities for Continuing Medical EducationCoaching Programs and Workshops, and training programs within the department as a learner and as a mentor. Research Mentoring classes for faculty are designed to help you become an effective mentor. The Martha Bradley Evans Center for Teaching Excellence provides teaching workshops and inclusivity learning events to help you further develop your skills as an educator.
