The University of Utah Internal Medicine-Pediatrics (Med-Peds) Training Program is a four-year program that provides residents with broad clinical training in both internal medicine and pediatrics. Our graduates pursue careers in Med-Peds primary care, hospital medicine, and fellowship training in either internal medicine or pediatrics, including those who choose to complete fellowships in both fields.

The curriculum includes alternating rotations in internal medicine and pediatrics, with experiences in both general and subspecialty settings. When possible, related medicine and pediatric rotations are scheduled together so that residents can learn from both perspectives and see where the two specialties overlap. The structure of the program also gives residents flexibility to pursue areas of particular interest and prepare for their future career plans.

We have a full X+Y schedule, with dedicated ambulatory time throughout residency. During their ambulatory weeks, residents have continuity clinics at two combined Med-Peds clinics within University of Utah Health. Both clinics serve a largely underserved population on the west side of Salt Lake City, including many refugee patients and families. Residents have the opportunity to care for patients over time and develop lasting relationships with them and their families.

Our graduates have gone on to careers in primary care, hospital medicine, and fellowship training in both pediatrics and internal medicine. We work closely with residents throughout training to help them make the most of their time here and pursue the career that is right for them.
