Blood Vials

Biomedical research distinguishes an academic medical center from other hospitals. By providing a culture that emphasizes cross-disciplinary research, our division distinguishes itself from many other divisions of pulmonary and critical care. Our research projects vary from societal aspects of medicine such as the impact of pollution on health, down to the level of genetic and molecular mechanisms of disease.

We participate in a variety of clinical studies related to pulmonary diseases. We also focus on translational research, genetics of human diseases, applied human physiology, and cell and molecular biology. We benefit from the strong collaborations from across the University of Utah including the other areas of medicine, the College of Engineering, and the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Current Disease-Oriented Research Programs

  • Adult cystic fibrosis
  • Acute lung injury/ARDS
  • COPD
  • Pulmonary fibrosis
  • Pulmonary arterial hypertension
  • Pneumonia
  • Sleep

The division receives more than $10 million from external funding every year and is proud to be a T32 grant to train postdoctoral fellows for academic careers in biomedical or clinical research.
