Alfred K. Cheung

Vice Chair, Research

Dr. Cheung is a Professor of Medicine, Chief of Division of Nephrology & Hypertension and Executive Director of the Dialysis Program at the University of Utah Hospital & Clinics. He holds the inaugural Dialysis Research Foundation endowed chair. Dr. Cheung received his M.D. degree from Albany Medical College in New York. He completed his Nephrology fellowship training from the University of California at San Diego. He is a translational laboratory and clinical investigator in the areas of chronic kidney disease, hemodialysis and hypertension and receives his research funding primarily from the NIH. 

Adam Cohen, MD

Adam Cohen, MD

Clinical Research Compliance Director

Dr.  Cohen is an Assistant Professor in the Oncology Division and received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School.  He is a member of the HCI Experimental Therapeutics program.  Specialties are neuro-oncology, breast oncology and gynecologic cancers, with a focus on clinical trials and pharmacogenomics.  Dr. Cohen co-chairs HCI’s Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee, which reviews cancer-related research projects for scientific merit and compliance with NCI guidelines.

Scott Low

Scott Low

Director of Research & Science

Scott received an MBA from the University of Utah and joined IM Research Administration in 2016. Prior to that time he managed the HCI Research Compliance Office for four years and he also has regulatory experience from the private sector.

Clinical Research Manager

Heather has extensive research management experience in both pre- and post-award administration of federal and industry funded studies. She has been with the University for 21 years and received her MPA from the University of Utah.

Janet Hood

Clinical Research Manager

Janet has worked at the University of Utah since 1983 where she started in the School of Medicine Dean’s Office in Student Affairs and Admissions.  After graduating from the University of Utah with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Business, she worked in the Dean’s Finance Office for several years.  It was there that she eventually became the Manager of Sponsored Projects for the School of Medicine and gained a love for Research Administration.  She continued to focus on Research Administration while being Division Manager for Cardiovascular Genetics for 26 years.  She is currently a Grants Manager for Hematology and Cardiovascular Medicine assisting with pre- and post-award grant management.

Jennifer Hammond

Jennifer Hammond, MBA

Clinical Trials Accounting & Finance Manager

Before joining the Clinical Trials Unit in 2019, Jennifer worked with the clinical trial finances at Huntsman Cancer Institute for 8 years, and recently with Internal Medicine Research Administration (since 2012). She received an MBA from the University of Utah in 2007.

Kris Larrabee

Kris Larrabee

Grants and Contracts Manager

Kris has over 30 years of experience working in a wide variety of administrative roles. While she joined Internal Medicine in 2016, she has been at the University of Utah since 2004.

Research Manager

Jessica has extensive pre- and post- award experience on federal and foundation grants. She previously worked in the Senior Vice President for Health Science Research Unit providing pre-award support for the basic sciences departments as well as the universities Grants and Contracts Accounting.
