Transplant Nephrology Fellowship
The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Nephrology & Hypertension at the University of Utah is pleased to offer training toward certification in Transplantation Nephrology. This program fulfills the extant requirements established by the Organ Procurement & Transplantation Network (OPTN) for individuals to serve as the Primary Kidney Transplant Physician for any transplant program in the U.S. The program provides a training experience that is formally certified by the American Society of Nephrology/American Society of Transplantation (ASN/AST) Transplant Nephrology Fellowship Training Accreditation Program. It includes at least eight months of clinical experience in which the trainee will manage at least 30 kidney transplant recipients as the primary care giver in both inpatient and outpatient settings, donor evaluation, pre-transplant recipient evaluation, kidney graft biopsy, and all prominent features of the clinical experience. The trainee is expected to manage immunosuppression, fluid-electrolyte balance, acid-base balance, blood pressure and glucose control, and anti-infective prophylaxis for all newly transplanted kidney recipients.
Our program offers two different tracks to fulfill these requirements:
- One-year clinical track
- Alternative Pathway: Two-year combined clinical and research track with an opportunity to obtain formal research training and an advanced degree (Master of Science in Clinical Investigation, MSCI)
Please provide your CV, personal statement, and two letters of recommendation via email to Ms. Victoria Buchanan (transplant.fellowship@hsc.utah.edu).
The program does not accept J1 VISA applicants.
