There is an increasing emphasis on advancing in medical education both at the University of Utah and throughout the country. Nephrology fellows with an interest in medical education may choose to do a third year of fellowship in order to complete a Masters in Medical Education through the University of Utah. Fellows would also continue a limited amount of outpatient clinical work during this year.

The University of Utah Masters in Medical Education requires 30 credits, broken down over 2-3 semesters. This is estimated to total approximately 30 hours of work per semester in addition to a Capstone Project addressing quality improvement in nephrology.
