Welcome Omar Wever-Pinzon, MD, New Assistant Professor - U of U School of Medicine

The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine is pleased to welcome Dr. Omar Wever-Pinzon to the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Medicine.

Dr. Wever-Pinzon received his medical degree from the University of Panama and completed his Internal Medicine Residency, followed by a fellowship in Advanced Cardiac Imaging at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center-University Hospital of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. In 2010, he joined the Cardiology Investigator track at the University of Utah, where he completed his Cardiovascular Disease fellowship. During his Cardiology training at the University of Utah, he served as the fellow representative for the Thoracic and Critical Care Community of Practice Executive Committee for the American Society of Transplantation. In 2012, Dr. Wever-Pinzon was awarded the Transplant Registry Early Career Award from the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation. For the past year Dr. Wever-Pinzon has been training in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical Center in New York City. Throughout his training, Dr. Wever-Pinzon has been recognized as an outstanding teacher and clinical investigator.

Dr. Wever-Pinzon's primary clinical and academic interests are focused on developing the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Program at the University of Utah. The goals of this program are to improve the clinical services provided to these patients and families, while building the academic infrastructure that will allow deciphering the mechanisms underlying this inherited cardiomyopathy and its complications.
