Introducing New Cardiology Members
University of Utah Cardiovascular New Cardiologists

Marc Engels, M.D., Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He is a cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist, specializing in the care of patients with heart rhythm disorders. He completed medical school as well as a Ph.D. at Leiden University in the Netherlands, followed by internal medicine residency at Emory University, cardiology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital and cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. His clinical interests include ablation of complex cardiac arrhythmias such as ventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter, and supraventricular tachycardia, as well as device therapy including pacemakers, cardiac resynchronization therapy, ICDs, and conduction system pacing as well as leadless pacemakers, device extraction and Watchman devices. His research has focused on the fundamental mechanisms underlying heart rhythm disorders as well as cellular and molecular based arrhythmia therapies including shockless defibrillation. Dr. Engels is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and cardiac electrophysiology.

Alison Brann is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the section of Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at the University of Utah. Alison grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah before attending the University of Notre Dame for her undergraduate degree and Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois for her Medical Degree. She then completed her training in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease at the University of California San Diego where she received multiple excellence in clinical research awards. She subsequently completed training in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at the University of Utah in 2024.
Dr. Brann specializes in the care of patients with advanced heart failure, including patients requiring mechanical circulatory support and cardiac transplantation. Her clinical and research interests also include the management of patients with hypertrophic and inherited cardiomyopathies. Dr. Brann is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Medicine, Echocardiography, and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology. Her work has been published in top medical journals including JAMA Cardiology, JACC: Heart Failure, and the European Journal of Heart Failure. Dr. Brann is also interested in medical education and is involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.

H. Immo Lehmann, M.D., Ph.D., is a Cardiologist specializing in heart rhythm disorders such as atrial fibrillation and flutter, supraventricular arrhythmias, and ventricular arrhythmias.
A native of Northern Germany, he completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). He completed fellowships in Cardiovascular Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital / Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA where he was also a John S. LaDue Memorial Fellow. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular
Electrophysiology at the University of Michigan. During his training he also gathered extensive research experience in electrophysiology, investigating innovative and cutting-edge therapeutic technologies for arrhythmia treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
Dr. Lehmann performs a broad range of procedures including catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation and flutter, ablation of supraventricular arrhythmias as well as ablation of ventricular tachycardias and premature ventricular contractions (PVCs). He performs cutting edge therapies such as alcohol ablation of arrhythmias. He is also well versed in the implantation of cardiac devices including pacemakers and defibrillators (traditional, leadless, and extravascular). Above all, Dr. Lehmann is committed to providing outstanding and personalized comprehensive arrhythmia care. He strives to prioritize patient empowerment and engagement in care.
