New Program to Aid Patients with Weight Loss Through Intragastric Balloons

The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition would like to highlight a new and upcoming program developed by Dr. Tuan Pham, MD, Assistant Professor. Dr. Pham, is one of the division transplant hepatologists and holds a special interest in Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) patients, and has also recently developed an intragastric balloon program. The new program is a lower cost option for patients who are seeking medical intervention to aid in their weight loss. The balloon is a temporary medical deceived placed in the patients stomach via endoscopy procure.

Dr. Pham states, “With the recent FDA Breakthrough Device Designation for treatment of NASH, as well as endorsement by the American Gastroenterology Association as frontline treatment for obesity, I am hopeful the gastric balloon continues to gain attention amongst the medical community as a serious treatment option for our complicated obese patients.”

Dr. Pham has also recently received an additional certification from the American Board of Obesity Medicine to aid in this program development. These services are offered by Dr. Pham at his clinic, which is based out of our University of Utah Sugarhouse location on the second Wednesday of every month.
