Dr. Tianxin Yang, Professor of Medicine and Dialysis Research Foundation Endowed Chair, in the Division of Nephrology has been selected for the 2016 Lewis K. Dahl Memorial Lecture at the upcoming annual meeting of American Heart Association Council on High Blood Pressure Research in Orlando. This honorary lectureship was established in 1988 by the Council in honor of Dr. Dahl’s pioneering work on the relations between salt, the kidney and hypertension, and for establishing a major genetically based experimental model of hypertension (Dahl salt-sensitive rat). This model is widely used to study the genetic characteristics of hypertension. The Dahl lecture is in recognition of Dr. Yang’s recent work on renal function of (pro)renin receptor and its interaction with prostaglandins. A series of his seminal studies on this topic have defined (pro)renin receptor as a key regulator of local renin-angiotensin system and Na+ and water transport in the kidney.
