Remembering Dr. Cesar Briganti
Dear Colleagues,
It is with the heaviest heart that we share the tragic news of the passing of Dr. Cesar Briganti, who died by suicide on January 29, 2021. With his family’s permission, this message is intended to honor and remember the life of our colleague.
Cesar joined our University of Utah Med-Peds Program in 2006. Those who knew him best remember him as a kind and consummate professional, admired for his caring and compassionate manner. After graduating from our Med-Peds program in 2010, Cesar joined the medicine hospitalist group at Intermountain’ s Riverton Hospital, where he exceptionally served his patients and our community for the past decade.
Without a doubt, this is an unthinkable tragedy. Words cannot express the pain and loss we feel as a healthcare community. In his honor, our hope, and his family’s hope, is that we will all take pause and grasp the fact that this should be a NEVER event. We must all do whatever we can to bring change to our culture so that we never have to share another story like this one.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to for help; there is no shame in needing it. Don’t hesitate to talk to colleagues who you think may be in need of help. We must remember that we are not superhuman, and that we all need someone to look out for us. There are many campus resources available, listed below, to assist us through these incredibly hard times.
Cesar was a tremendous human - brilliant, caring, kind and warm. Our heart-felt condolences go out to his family, and we will miss him terribly.
