Dr. Siddhartha Kakani’s Role in Setting National Standards in Nephrology

Siddhartha Kakani, MD, MHA, an Associate Professor in the Division of Nephrology, is making significant contributions to the field of nephrology at a national level. Dr. Kakani is actively involved with the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in setting standards for the ABIM Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment Nephrology Board Examination. The members of the standard-setting committee are invited from a nationwide pool based on their top score performances in the ABIM Nephrology Board Certification Exam. The standard-setting endeavor contributes to setting the standard for board certification of Nephrologists in the US, affecting the quality of nephrology practice in the United States.

Dr. Kakani's distinguished academic and professional journey began at Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad, India, where he earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). His pursuit of excellence led him to the United States, where he furthered his education with a Master of Health Administration (MHA) from the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO. This unique combination of medical and administrative expertise has positioned Dr. Kakani as a leader in clinical practice and healthcare management.

Following his academic training, Dr. Kakani completed his residency at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, NE, where he honed his clinical skills and deepened his understanding of internal medicine. Based on his performance in residency, was chosen to serve as the Chief Resident of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Creighton University.  His passion for nephrology led him to Boston, MA, where he completed a Fellowship in Nephrology at Tufts Medical Center, Tufts University. During his fellowship, Dr. Kakani focused on advanced kidney care, contributing to his robust foundation in nephrology.

Dr. Kakani's involvement in the ABIM committee is a testament to his dedication to the advancement of nephrology and his influence in shaping the future of kidney care. His work directly impacts the quality of care that patients with kidney diseases receive, setting the stage for improved outcomes and better management of renal conditions.
